My approach
Often, the problem isn't ability.
Over the years, I've found that students who are struggling with maths often have gaps or misconceptions from earlier topics that are making everything that follows unnecessarily difficult. Others understand far more than their results suggest but lose marks through rushed working, small mistakes or poor exam technique. And some have simply lost confidence.

Maths tutor. One concept at a time. One question at a time. One small success at a time. Until maths begins to feel less intimidating, and much more manageable.
From “I can't do maths” to “Guess what I got in my test!”
I want students to reach the point where they're willing to attempt a difficult question because they know that, even if they don't get it immediately, we can work it out together.
I want them to stop being frightened of getting something wrong, and to understand why a method works rather than simply memorising steps.
And yes, I want their grades to improve. But something else often happens along the way. Parents tell me their child is happier and less anxious. Students start enjoying the challenge. Some who once disliked maths have even gone on to choose it for A Level.
One of my favourite moments is when a student arrives at our lesson desperate to tell me their latest test result, and their parent knows to let them tell me first.That's when I know something has changed.

After every lesson, I send you the whiteboard work we've done together with a short update about what we covered and how your child is progressing. You always know what we're working on and where things stand.
GCSE Maths Tuition
GCSE Maths can feel particularly daunting when earlier gaps haven't been addressed, and waiting until the final few months of Year 11 isn't always the answer.
Teachers have to make decisions about exam entry, including Foundation or Higher tier, and some students need time to rebuild their foundations before they can make significant progress. That's why I tutor from Year 9 onwards.
Whether your child is working towards the grade they need for college or sixth form, trying to move onto the Higher paper, or aiming for Grades 7, 8 or 9, we'll work from their starting point.
A-Level Maths Tuition
A Level is a significant step up. Students who previously found maths relatively straightforward can suddenly find themselves struggling.
Others understand the topics individually but find it much harder to recognise which technique is required when faced with an unfamiliar exam question.
My A-Level tuition combines mathematical understanding, regular retrieval and exam technique, built around the individual student and their goals.

Tutoring works best when the student trusts their tutor, feels comfortable asking questions and believes that person can help them. That's why I offer a free online trial session. We'll get the technology working, your child can bring along some maths they'd like help with, and we'll actually do some maths together. You can join us too if you'd like.
Then ask your child what they thought. If they connect better with another tutor, choose that tutor. This needs to be right for your child.
